Mini Mansions, a band formed of Zach Dawes, Tyler Parkford and Michael Shuman (Queens Of The Stone Age) are some that I have only recently become aware of, despite being about for a few years. Their most recent video is a cover, which they actually originally released in 2009, of Blondie's, Heart of Glass.
The cover has an odd tone about it but I really like the vibe they're giving off. It has a psychadelia about it that is somewhat reminiscent, at points, of The Beatles, whilst also having a mellow but modern twist in the likes of Trailer Trash Tracey's or maybe even My Elastic Eye.
The beginning of the song is a little low pitched for me ... despite the powerful and distinctive 'ooh' being used on loop, but it all comes together and, ironically, falls apart (in the video) upon reaching and after the second verse.
It goes from strength to strength to finish on one of the best, but one of the weirdest highs, with Michael floating in many different 'scenarios' whilst in the bath and practically screaming the lyrics to the, quite probably flabbergasted, viewers. He then dips his head under the water and the rest seems history.
What do you think of this rejuvenation of a Blondie classic?
Paul.
